Self-Care and Resilience Training

During the first several years of our work, TBCC counselors have perceived that providers of social and ministerial services are often themselves underserved, especially those working with at-risk youth and those facing poverty and violence.

In 2006 and in collaboration with Roxbury Presbyterian Church, TBCC piloted a new program to offer training and support to these providers around issues encountered in their professional experience, as well as the personal toll that such work often demands.

TBCC's Self-Care and Resilience Training offers group support and training for clinicians, pastors, and youth workers who work with at-risk youth. We not only discuss the therapeutic and trauma issues that these workers encounter in their work with clients, but also support them in addressing the personal toll that such work can take. By helping this professional population cope with despair and burn out, TBCC is able to energize and improve their care of others.

We have offered Self-Care and Resilience Training to staff at agencies such as the Massachusetts Department of Social Services and the Department of Youth Services. We have also conducted groups with nonprofits such as neXus and Global Ministries.

Internship Program
TBCC demonstrates its commitment to clinical education through its internship program.

The program includes individual and group field work, clinical supervision, and the varied experiences of working in an active counseling center. Additionally, interns are encouraged to explore their own areas of interest.

In the past, we have accepted interns from, among others:

  • Boston College
  • Boston University
  • Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary
  • Simmons College
