Outreach and Partnerships
TBCC collaborates with many different organizations to address varied mental health needs in Boston. Over the years, we have developed a particular specialization in working with at-risk youth. We have also added a new program this year that addresses mental health needs of formerly homeless individuals.
At-Risk Youth
A lack of adequate mental health care is one of the largest gaps in services for at-risk youth in the City of Boston. TBCC is proud to be playing a role in addressing this critical need during a time when our city’s youth face increasing violence. We currently offer three programs at two venues:
Roxbury Community Re-Entry Center
The Roxbury Community Re-Entry Center (CRC) is a program of the state juvenile correctional system. For the past three years, the TBCC has provided individual and group clinical services for youth at the CRC.
CRC Individual Counseling
Our individual counseling program serves adolescents who are re-entering the community after a period of detention imposed by the juvenile court.
CRC Street Potential Program
Street Potential is a therapeutic group that engages high-risk youth through the arts. Through this program, we encourage the youth to use their own unique voice to create hip hop music and studio art that describes and captures the reality of their experience.
In the program, the youth:
- talk and think about what really matters
- locate where they find strength and encouragement
- create art such as
1. original hip hop songs – including writing lyrics, creating beats, recording, and production
2. murals, paintings, photography, and more
- learn from local artists about the realities of the music industry and the dedication necessary to become successful
The program encourages youth to see their unique and complex stories of struggle, disappointment, and resilience as sacred. The youth are challenged to look beyond the tendencies to glamorize drugs, violence, and sexual promiscuity and to find their own hope within the midst of their struggle. We are grateful to the Massachusetts Cultural Council and the Massachusetts Department of Youth Services for supporting Street Potential.

Still We Rise
We collaborate with Roxbury Youthworks’ Female Focus Initiative to support female adolescents in the juvenile system as they transition back into the community from residential facilities. At Still We Rise, Jessica Leffler facilitates group therapy programs for girls.
Empowerment Groups
As part of TEEP’s summer and after school programs, we offer therapy and support groups for TEEP middle school students. In these groups, the students learn important life skills pertaining to self-esteem, decision-making, and building positive relationships. They also discuss critical issues, such as rising violence in the students’ home neighborhoods. The groups help to empower the students to develop their voices in their relationships, communities, and world.
Formerly Homeless Individuals
This year, TBCC launched a partnership with Pine Street Inn at Yearwood House, a "Housing First" residence located in the Fenway neighborhood of Boston.
Yearwood House provides permanent housing for 21 individuals, all of whom have histories of chronic homelessness. TBCC provides on-site clinical support to individuals and in community-building groups. We also collaborate with case managers and counselors in our continued work with persons impacted by homelessness.
