Accomplishments

Our mission is to create a safe community where every student is inspired to discover, empowered to engage, and individually affirmed. The TEEP program is specifically designed to address the following 5 needs of Boston Public school students:

  1. To counter the documented educational loss middle school students suffer in the summer by offering small classes led by certified teachers in math, language arts, and music;
  2. To build their life-coping skills and sense of leadership through a program structured on the “5 Rs” (respect, responsibility, reciprocity, restraint, and redemption, which we define as second changes);
  3. To provide a safe place for boys and girls at a challenging age;
  4. To give the students a new perspective on their city and on themselves, through creative programs and field trips;
  5. To offer guidance and resources to high school students as they prepare for college.

We evaluate our summer program using a formal survey process based on our stated mission goals. Key findings include the following:

  • Students and parents seek a summer program that combines academics, fun, activities, and values/character education
  • Students and parents agree that TEEP offers a community that is safe both physically and emotionally
  • TEEP students demonstrate a strong understanding of the 5 R’s and their application in daily decision-making
  • TEEP students gain confidence in math and English, and especially in self-expression and interacting with their peers. Parents and students cite enhanced confidence as one of the student’s greatest accomplishments at TEEP.

The survey results affirm TEEP’s philosophy that the combination of academics, culture, and values (the 5 R’s) is a highly effective model. Students display a high level of self-awareness in their survey responses, commenting on their improvements in social skills, personal responsibility, and self-restraint, among other areas.

Our retention rate for students that join our high school program after the summer and stay with us through graduation is 83%, based on 2 years of data. Of those graduates, 100% has gone on to college or technical school. TEEP alumni are currently enrolled at Wheaton College (MA), University of Massachusetts Boston, University of Charleston, Syracuse University, Johnson and Wales University, and others.

Program goals for 2008 include improved leadership and socialization skills, increased 8th grade retention rates, and increased numbers of students going to functional high schools.

Back To Top

"I am so glad that Trinity is doing this for our 7th grade students, because we recognize that this is a very important turning point for them. TEEP is helping them when they need it most."
Thomas Payzant
