Sole Train: Boston Runs Together

 Mission and Goals:

Sole Train: Boston Runs Together is both a running and mentoring program for Boston youth. We aim to inspire urban youth to realize their potential, accomplish goals they never thought possible, and to have fun doing it, by training for and running a half marathon. The emphasis is not on running a competitive time. Rather we focus on the following strategic goals:

  • Increasing confidence, resilience and self efficacy through the achievement of a very challenging goal.

  • Learning and embodying healthy habits beginning with exercise and nutrition.

  • Building a safe, supportive community of youth and adults that believes in the potential of every member.

  • Connecting youth to other supports as needed (i.e. academic, mental health, jobs)

  • Expanding the sense of possibility and connection for youth who may not have explored their city or met adults from other neighborhoods.

  • Celebrating and affirming our personal and collective accomplishments.

Sole Train takes a holistic approach to the mind and body and believes that instilling an understanding of this connection helps youth succeed. We also aim to increase nutritional education by providing healthy meals and underscoring the value of exercise and a balanced diet.
